Plea to Help Lebanon

broken image

Lebanon is a nation found in the Middle East and bordering the Mediterranean Sea to the west, Syria to the east and north, and Israel to the south. This country is at its worst as we talk now. The government has led the country into an economic crisis through the public debt which was anyway taking the country into a crash sooner than later. The reason behind all this is the corrupt government officials who didn't care about their citizens. Despite the Lebanese going through hard times with their economy for years which led to a high rate of unemployment, lack of basic services such as lack of internet connections, limited public healthcare, lack of clean water, and many more, a worse scenario happened.

People continued to have violent strikes in protest of the government officials that had failed the country and made the people of Lebanon continue to suffer. These violent protests led to the resignation of the Western-backed Prime Minister Saad Hariri and his team. Prime Minister Hassan Diab was appointed for the seat after the resignation of Prime Minister Saad Hariri. What angered the Lebanese most was the plan of the former government to start taxing WhatsApp calls, high-interest rates for commercial bank loans, and increased tax for other commodities like tobacco and petrol in the attempt to repay its heavily weighing debt.

As if that was not enough, the Coronavirus hit Lebanon just as it hit other countries without mercy. The worst about this country is that they already lacked basic needs like clean water due to the high level of corruption in the country. Yet we understand that clean water is necessary for helping to fight Covid-19. Something else you need to remember is that the Lebanon health centers are not enough and some of them are not in good condition and lack important equipment to take care of covid-19 patients. To curb the spread of this coronavirus, the country had to go to a lock down as many countries did. Many businesses closed down while others laid off its employees. Price for items hiked like a rocket and many people were unable to buy some basic products like meat, vegetables, and fruits. This made the situation worse for the country struggling with economic crises, violent protests that involved a fight between the citizen and the police officers.
